Therapy with Adolescents

Adolescence generally describes the stage of development that transitions from childhood to young adulthood.

This stage of development can often come with experiences and challenges such as:

  • Puberty: biological changes, changes in physical appearance and relative comfort or discomfort with these changes.
  • Body image
  • Self-esteem
  • Feeling misunderstood
  • Forging a sense of identity
  • The increased importance of peer relationships
  • Social pressures: Wanting to "fit in"
  • Bullying
  • Academic pressure
  • Conflict with parents
  • Conflict with teachers

These are some of the themes that emerge in therapy with adolescents.
